Managing a team can be hard and the more people that you are in charge of, the more difficult it can be. Staying in control of a large number of people and making sure that they are getting all of their work done on time is something which you get better at over time. You should, however, always make sure that your team respects you and that they know that you are there to lead rather than just be their friend. There are plenty of ways that you can help yourself to manage a great team so keep reading to find out more! As a manager looking for ways to improve processes, increase efficiency and productivity, and bring ideas to life, this is a fantastic resource. Ask your most tenured team members for their opinions and ideas themuse.com Be Clear and Consistent If you want your team to work well together and to follow your instructions, you must be clear with what you want them to do. Being vague on your instructions or not communicating effectively can have a very negative effect on how your team operates. Make sure that when you set out goals or have any sort of meetings that you are clear and consistent. Any questions that your team has needs to be answered as soon as possible to ensure that they are on the same page as you. From here, you can expect your team to do as you have asked, and you can let them know if they havent followed your instructions properly. source Use A Workflow System If you are running a big team who are all working on the same project, then you should consider investing in a workflow system. It can be difficult to stay on top of all of the different tasks that need to be done in a big project and so a workflow system can really make a difference. Workflow systems work like a board that organizes tasks into different sections depending on what needs to be done, what is currently in progress and what has been completed. If you take advantage of one of these systems, you can expect to see better results in your team and youll be able to identify what works well and what doesnt! source Give Recognition Theres nothing like getting a project or a task done on time when you thought you were going to struggle. You can feel like a huge weight has been lifted and you are happy with yourself. Something which can really encourage you to achieve this goal again is when someone else praises you for getting it done. This is why it is important that as a leader you encourage your team to do well and you praise them for doing things right. How you reward hard work is up to you, you can give out bonuses or organize days out but even just a simple well done can go a long way! Theres a lot to think about when it comes to your employees, and to make sure youre getting your moneys worth; you need to make sure you can manage them sufficiently. Tweet This Be Present No one likes a leader that sits behind a computer in another office down the hall sending out emails about getting work done on time. Of course, you might be busy with other things and micromanaging is never good, but you should make sure to stay present so that your team can rely on you. If you want to manage a great team, then you need to make yourself available. You need to show your face and be able to answer any questions that your team have. When you have a strong presence in a team, you also show that you care and that you are happy to help. This will make the team feel like they are working with you and not for you. From here, you can expect your team to respect you more and put a little more effort in to try to please you. source Final Thoughts Running a successful team isnt as hard as you think as long as you open up the right communication channels. It is good to be present and allow yourself to get involved with what the team is doing to ensure that everything is running smoothly. If you think your team could benefit from a little more organization, make sure to have a look at workflow systems and find out how they could make a difference to how your project is run. Additional Resources Books Remember to be positive and always give constructive feedback rather than negative feedback. If your team respects you and appreciates what you do for them then they are more likely to work a little harder to reach a deadline in order to help you get the job done on time. Dont be afraid to seek advice from your team in order to understand what they need from you. A team is only as strong as its leader and if you want to impress your own boss then you need to manage your team effectively now.
